Monday 4th August
Arrive in Davos

Today you take a direct flight from London to Basel, Switzerland. From there, you travel by rail to Davos, a picturesque resort town in the Rhaetian Alps, where you will check into the Central Sporthotel. Davos is home to one of Switzerland’s largest ski resorts, and features stunning views of the surrounding mountains, as well as Lake Davos. After checking in you have the rest of the day to explore Davos at your leisure, before making your way back to the hotel for a welcome dinner.


Tuesday 5th August
Landwasser Viaduct and Albula Railway Museum
After breakfast at the hotel, you head to the Rhaetian Railway for a memorable day out. First you travel to Filisur on the Landwasser Express, where you will stop to view and enjoy a tour of the spectacular Landwasser Viaduct. Originally constructed in the early 1900s, this impressive feat of architecture is a must for any railway enthusiast. Afterwards, you will visit the Albula Railway Museum in Bergün. The museum hosts 600 exhibits, guiding you through the history of rail travel in Graubünden. It features old railway equipment, historical documents and engineering plans, as well as a simulator that allows you to experience driving the legendary Crocodile locomotive yourself. Lunch will be served at Bergün or Filisur. After lunch, you’ll return to Davos and take the funicular up to Schatzalp for some impressive Alpine views, before returning to the hotel for dinner. Wednesday 6th August
Alpine Classic Pullman Express, cruise on Lake Lucerne
Today you meet in reception with your luggage, this will be transferred directly to your hotel in Sarnen. Following check out, you embark on the Alpine Classic Pullman Express to Andermatt. You will travel the famous UNESCO World Heritage route on the Albula line over the Landwasser Viaduct, and experience the natural beauty of the Rhine Gorge, Switzerland’s Grand Canyon, as you follow the route over the Oberalp Pass. The nostalgic saloon carriages, with their comfortable armchairs, bay windows, and teak wood furnishings, all contribute to the unique charm of the Alpine Classic Pullman Express. Upon arrival in Andermatt, you continue by rail to Flüelen at the southern tip of Lake Lucerne, travelling through the wild Schöllenen Gorge and along the Reuss. From Flüelen you will board a boat for a scenic cruise to Lucerne. From there you take a short train journey to Sarnen, where you will check into the Hotel Krone for dinner. (B D)

Thursday 7th August
Lucerne tour, Cogwheel railway to Mt Pilatus and cruise
After breakfast at the hotel, you will get to know Lucerne through a guided tour of the city. You’ll be inspired by the numerous market squares, the colourfully painted houses, and the famous Chapel Bridge. Lucerne is also home to a number of beautiful, original shops which you will have the opportunity to browse. At lunchtime, you take the world’s steepest cogwheel railway up the local mountain, the 2173 metre high Mt Pilatus. Here you will enjoy lunch at the Pilatus-Kulm restaurant, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. After lunch, you return back to Alpnachstad, where you take a lake cruise back to Lucerne. On arrival back in lucerne you return by train back to your hotel in Sarnen, where your farewell dinner will be served.

Return home
After breakfast, you check out of your hotel and return by rail to Basel Airport for a direct flight home. (B)
